Oliver Glasner speaks on Man Utd links following Ruben Amorim dismissal with ‘makes no sense’ claim

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has broken his silence regarding the rumours linking him to Old Trafford, following the sacking of Manchester United head coach, Ruben Amorim.

2026 has got off to a whirlwind start for Manchester United, with their head coach, Ruben Amorim, getting sacked following controversial comments that he made over the weekend.

Amorim had some explosive words for the press following his side’s 1-1 Premier League clash with rivals Leeds United on Sunday, which ultimately led to him falling on his own sword.

Now that the Portuguese tactician has departed from the club, the Reds are in search of a new head coach, although, for the time being, they will be managed by caretaker Darren Fletcher, assisted by Jonny Evans.

One of the favourites for the role is Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who has since broken his silence regarding the prospect of managing the Red Devils.

Glasner breaks silence on United links

The 51-year-old has enjoyed a successful spell as the manager of the Eagles, even managing to lead his side to silverware as they took home last season’s FA Cup.

Despite his successful stint in South London, Glasner has been very critical of his club’s recruitment issues, and he is out of contract at the end of the season.

Ahead of the Eagles clash with Aston Villa, Glasner has spoken on landing the United job, although, as reported by Manchester Evening News, he tried to dodge the subject entirely.

When asked if people should be betting on him to land the job, he said, “I am not allowed to bet. My contract has one paragraph that I am not allowed to bet. And I don’t look at it.

“I also cannot give insider information. That would also be breaking my contract. I am Crystal Palace manager and it makes no sense for you to ask more questions about it.”

All roads lead to Glasner?

Palace have reportedly tried to convince their Austrian coach to sign a new deal at Selhurst Park, although it seems as if Glasner isn’t keen on the idea, which may lead him to walk once his contract is up.

Given that United are keen on waiting until the summer to appoint a permanent manager, it could appear as if they are waiting for Glasner, or somebody else currently in a role.

If the Reds were to be keen on somebody such as Enzo Maresca or Xavi Hernandez, who are both currently out of a job, then it could be assumed that they would pursue their target now, as opposed to waiting.

As things stand, Fletcher will be in charge of United for their tie with Burnley, although interestingly, former coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær has offered his services to the club on a caretaker basis.
