Ole Gunnar Solskjær thoughts on Manchester United return explained amid Rúben Amorim sacking

Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s thoughts on a possible return to Manchester United have been explained following Rúben Amorim’s sacking.

Rúben Amorim has been sacked as Manchester United head coach following the side’s 1-1 draw against Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

Following the performance, Amorim launched an explosive rant where he claimed he wanted to speak to the manager of the club rather than their head coach.

At the same time, there have been multiple reports surrounding tension between the United boss and Director of Football Jason Wilcox regarding his style of play and transfer priorities.

However, the club have been firm in stating that the 40-year-old’s sacking is not down to any form of power struggle, but instead an overall lack of progress on the pitch.

How Solskjær feels about United return

Former United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjær managed United between December 2018 and November 2021, and at his peak, led United to third and second-placed finishes in the Premier League, although losses in FA Cup finals and in the Europa League final dampened his tenure.

However, according to reports from Norway, some believe he may now be the perfect candidate to take United over from Amorim.

It has been claimed that Solskjær has been preparing for a possible return to United in the event of Amorim’s departure and is ready to help the club if called upon.

The Norwegian was let go by Besiktas in the summer after they failed to qualify for European football, but his innate connection with United could be a major asset in helping him steady the ship if needed.

Fletcher to take control as interim

Despite Solskjær’s apparent desire to return to Old Trafford, it will be U18’s coach Darren Fletcher who takes charge of the men’s first team for their upcoming tie against Burnley.

Although United’s official statement does not confirm whether Fletcher will be in charge beyond the Burnley fixture, David Ornstein has reported that he is due to remain in charge for the foreseeable future.

According to the report, United are not expected to make a permanent appointment until the season is over, presumably to give the club maximum time to reset and make the right next choice.

Although there are several possible candidates out there who are not currently employed, such as Xavi Hernandez and Gareth Southgate, United have also been closely linked with Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, whose current deal in South London expires in June.
