Ole Gunnar Solskjær highlights the biggest problem Ruben Amorim is facing at Manchester United

Ruben Amorim has had a difficult time in charge at Manchester United since he arrived in November last year.
Manchester United appointed Ruben Amorim as the club’s new head coach after sacking Erik ten Hag following his poor start to the season.
Amorim was lighting up the Champions League with his Sporting side, and also led the Portuguese league with them.
He decided to leave that environment for an entirely different challenge, and one that has proven difficult so far.
The 40-year-old has taken charge of 23 games so far and won just 11 of those, with the Reds lingering in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Amorim has admitted that the task at hand is more difficult than he initially anticipated, with the current players seeming to struggle to adapt to his preferred system.
Solskjær highlights Amorim’s biggest problem at United
Ole Gunnar Solskjær managed United between 2018 and 2021, with the ex-striker providing second and third-placed finished in his only two full Premier League campaigns.
But he was eventually sacked as well after a poor start to the 2021/22 campaign. Solskjær finally returned to management earlier this year with Turkish side Beşiktaş.
The ex-United boss has started life in the Super Lig well and has been speaking with The Athletic about his former side in an interview this week.
With the new head coach at Old Trafford facing similar difficulties to his predecessors, Solskjær was asked whether United need to show more patience with managers.
His response highlighted one of the biggest issues facing Amorim right now, claiming that it is not ideal that every manager seems to have to play with players that might not suit their style since they were brought in by the previous men in charge.
“That’s for the people at the top (of United), but an issue is that the manager plays with the previous manager’s players,” the Norwegian explained.
He added: “I just remember a great time at United apart from the last six weeks. Great people — and the culture is in the people. Going back to United was like going back to my family, like I’d never been away.”
United need long-term recruitment strategy
It is quite clear for everyone who watches United at the moment that Amorim does not have the players he needs to succeed in his preferred style of play.
Some have criticised that he hasn’t looked to adjust more to his existing squad, but the problem remains and has to be changed.
That does not mean that United should not sack underperforming managers, but they have to have a long-term plan in their recruitment of both players and managers.

During Ten Hag’s reign, a lot of players were signed by the manager himself and with a focus on them being in his system, and now there are question marks over those players because the situation has changed.
Making sure that you sign players, and bring in managers, who fit a general idea will help that problem that Solskjær highlighted.
