“Now we have…” – Ruben Amorim confirms major January boost for Man United after complaints

Ruben Amorim has confirmed a major boost for his Manchester United team in January after initial complaints from the boss.

Manchester United begin 2025 with one of their most challenging fixtures of the season, facing arch-rivals and Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool are in exceptional form, sitting comfortably at the top of the table with just one defeat across all competitions this season.

In stark contrast, United are languishing in 14th place, only seven points above the relegation zone, as they continue to struggle with the transition under new boss Ruben Amorim.

Adapting to Amorim’s style has been more challenging than anticipated, with the team suffering five defeats in their last six league matches, including disappointing home losses to Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, and Newcastle United.

For Amorim’s side, this match represents an opportunity to play with nothing to lose. Securing an upset could provide a much-needed boost to the atmosphere at Old Trafford.

Amorim gets January wish at United

Many are hoping for more players in the January transfer window, and despite initially saying sales will need to be made, Amorim has confirmed that United ‘will try to do something’ in the market.

“Of course, with the window open we can try to do something and we will try to do something,” began Amorim during his pre-match press conference.

However, the more important thing for the United boss this month is the time on the training pitch, with two consecutive weeks with only one game.

Amorim has led the team in 11 fixtures now but had four full training sessions in total due to the nature of the winter schedule.

The Reds will return to two matches a week later on in the month when the Europa League returns, but Amorim is hoping that this extra training time towards the beginning of the month will help the team going forward.

He added: “But I think in the next weeks, we are going to have more time to train and we have to improve, that’s the only way.

“Because we had a lot of games without training and now we have more space to grow.”

United fans need to be patient with Amorim

Last week, it was quite staggering to learn that Amorim only had four sessions with his entire squad since his arrival. Thankfully, that number should be in double figures soon but it is still a very difficult task.

There is a need for the head coach to implement his own style as soon as possible but there will continue to be major difficulties because he joined mid-season.

Media attention will continue to be heavy but the fanbase need to stick by the Portuguese boss and show patience for Amorim, who took the job in dire circumstances.

It should also be remembered that things were far from rosy in the previous system. He has to take steps forward towards his idea, rather than taking the easy way out in the short-term, because we’ve seen what happens then.
