Fabrizio Romano has revealed what must be done in order for Manchester United to complete one of their ‘priority’ transfers this summer.
Jadon Sancho’s spell at Manchester United has been disappointing for both the player and the club, and it’s evident that a permanent separation is necessary this summer.
Many United fans believed that exit was imminent when Chelsea agreed to a loan deal with an obligation to buy. However, the Blues ultimately paid a penalty to back out of the agreement and avoid signing the winger permanently.
In recent weeks, Sancho’s representatives have been exploring potential destinations in anticipation of a summer move, with Napoli emerging as one of the clubs to express interest in the 25-year-old.
Securing a deal, however, may prove challenging, as Sancho is reluctant to accept a significant pay cut from his current £300,000-per-week wages at Old Trafford.
Fabrizio Romano reveals how to complete ‘priority’ United transfer
Various reports have explained that Napoli are now among the clubs interested in Sancho this summer, with the Italian side still looking to strengthen on that left side after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s midseason departure last term.
They were previously linked with Alejandro Garnacho but it now looks like they are opting for the lower-cost option of Sancho, who is currently valued at around £25 million.
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed this interest in Sancho from Napoli, and also stated that it is a ‘priority’ for the Reds to permanently part ways with the player rather than seeing him go on loan for a third time.
However, the Italian journalist added that the Naples club have no intention of paying him the wages he currently earns at Old Trafford, which means he will need to lower his demands or United must subsidise the difference.
“Manchester United will give priority to selling Jadon Sancho on permanent deal before opening doors to loans,” Romano posted on X. “Napoli are among clubs keen but not interested to pay his current salary, early stages – and more clubs in the race.”
United need to take action with Sancho situation
Sancho’s wage problem is concerning because he seemed to enjoy his time at Chelsea – so if he isn’t lowering his wages for them, it feels unlikely that he’d do it to join Napoli.
United will need to take action and bite the bullet, even if that means they end up lowering the asking price to £15 million – get him gone.
They should be trying to stay stricter with their valuations of players like Garnacho or Marcus Rashford even though it feels unimaginable for either player to be at Old Trafford next season.
But they have made positive impacts at the club beforehand. Sancho, on the other hand, has only caused United trouble since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund and it is finally time to part ways for good.
