Diogo Dalot had seemed untouchable heading into the summer transfer window, but could be set to become available despite his leadership role under Rúben Amorim.
As seen with the transfer saga involving Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, it appears that no player is immune from a potential departure from Old Trafford this summer.
United’s priority is evidently the forward line, with Matheus Cunha signing quickly after the window opened for £62.5 million. Still, they have failed to capture any of their targets, with their move for Bryan Mbeumo stalling as of late.
Despite needing to trim the squad in order to rebuild it, there have been no departures to date, as United have yet to permanently sell any of their want-away players, such as Antony and Jadon Sancho.
With their contracts expiring, United have released Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelöf, but could now be set to make Diogo Dalot available for the right price.
Dalot is available for summer transfer
Some fan favourite players are expected to be sold this summer, with Marcus Rashford set to end his nearly 20-year affiliation with the club, and Ruben Amorim telling Alejandro Garnacho that he’s free to find a new club in the summer.
It now appears that United are also stunningly willing to allow Diogo Dalot to leave the club if a suitable offer is received.
Speaking to United in Focus, Graeme Bailey said: “The situation around Dalot is an interesting one, as he is not a great fit for Amorim’s system at wing-back. Dalot is not like Noussair Mazraoui, who can play a variety of roles, including centre-back.
“Next season, with the transfer business done by United, Dalot would likely stack up as the second-choice right wing-back, behind Amad.”
It has been reported previously that the right-back was attracting interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. However, with the Spanish outfit’s recent signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold, it naturally leaves Bayern Munich as the only potential option.
Dalot’s role under Amorim
Despite not being a proper fit in the 3-4-2-1 system, Amorim has continued to play him, as the value of his on-the-pitch leadership is valuable.
The 26-year-old has worked on himself to develop into both an on- and off-the-pitch leader after Amorim’s comments about United’s lack of leadership.

Speaking to the BBC in January, he reacted to Amorim’s criticism, saying: “I said after… it obviously pinched me, that statement from him, and it’s something that I’ve been trying to take out of myself a little bit more these couple of years.
“We have great leaders in the dressing room. Sometimes, we don’t see it, but we are trying to help our teammates. If he feels like that, we have to look at it and look at ourselves as well.”
While you could certainly get a decent fee for a right-back who is getting into his prime, and who doesn’t have a natural place in the side, the value of his leadership could turn out to be heavily missed if INEOS were to sanction a move for him.
