Nicky Butt sends advice to Man United star who can become “one of the best players in the world” – fans will be conflicted
Nicky Butt has sent advice to one Manchester United player who he believes can become “one of the best players in the world” and fans will be conflicted.
The Reds have started the season poorly, with just one Premier League win in their opening three games.
Goals have been difficult to come by, with just two scored so far, and several big chances missed by Erik ten Hag’s side.
Marcus Rashford has come under fire by some supporters after failing to register a shot on goal in the opening three games. He has created three big chances for his teammates though, the most of any United player.
Nicky Butt offers Rashford advice
Nicky Butt, former United player and coach, has provided some controversial advice for Rashford, a player he worked with and still believes can reach the very top of the game.
Despite his high expectations for Rashford, Butt has suggested that it may be time for a change of club after getting a lot of unjust criticism at Old Trafford.
“It’s actually sad watching that because I’ve known Marcus since he was probably eight and nine at Man United coming through and he’s always been the one that you hold hope for,” Butt told talkSPORT.
“I do believe and people will be screaming down the phone now probably but I do believe he’s still got the talent to be one of the best top players in the world.
“He’s just not clicking for the last few years at Man United, you’re always saying he’s just going to do it, he’s going to do it but it’s looking like maybe it’s time for a change for him.

“No-one really knows what his mentality is, but there’s a lot of talent within that man and he’s a top, top footballer.
“But it’s just not happening for Man United now, people always point to the fact of his body language, he doesn’t care, I can tell you now he does care, he’s a proper lad but he’s just not clicking for him.
“Maybe it is time to go and find a club where he can get a bit of a deep breath, the eyes aren’t on him all the time.
“He’s the excuse for all the fans, all the fans look at him and it’s not just him, the whole team, the whole squad needs to up the game.”
Fans conflicted on Rashford
It is quite clear that Rashford causes the most debate within the United squad. Some believe he is the best player and can still lead the team but others have lost hope in the academy graduate.
Yet, the attention surrounding him so far this season shows that the goalposts seem to always move with the United no.10.
After being hounded for being shot-happy and not keeping the ball, he is now being criticised for being more measured in his displays and not constantly dribbling at players.
The deliveries to the wings have also been poor, particularly in the Liverpool game. Bruno Fernandes has not completed one through ball yet and those are the kinds of passes that players like Rashford thrive on.
Ultimately, Rashford’s success at United this season will depend on whether he can find that goalscoring touch once again, but we can not expect him to do it without help.
