Newcastle United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign a £16 million Manchester United outcast as Rúben Amorim must raise funds to buy new recruits.

Manchester United are embracing a more restrained transfer strategy under Rúben Amorim, a stark contrast to the big spending seen during Erik ten Hag’s reign.

Over five transfer windows, Ten Hag oversaw investments surpassing £600 million, a massive outlay that many believe failed to deliver the expected progress on the pitch.

Amorim has made it clear that the squad requires significant reinforcements, with a striker, a centre-back, a left-back, and possibly additional midfield options topping the list. Meeting these needs will be essential as the club seeks to balance its ambitions with a more disciplined financial approach.

To support these plans, United are expected to sell some of their high-value players, signaling a shift towards a more calculated and sustainable approach to building the squad.

This change reflects not only fiscal responsibility but also a strategic effort to rebuild United’s competitive foundation.

Antony has been offered to Newcastle

Amid United’s need to offload players, a report from CaughtOffside has now claimed that Newcastle are one of three clubs who have been offered the chance to sign Antony.

This comes after reports from Spain suggested that La Liga side Real Betis have expressed an interest in taking Antony on loan and paying part of his £190,000-a-week wages.

Further, it’s said that Antony likes the idea of playing in Spain, and that Betis would be willing to include an option to buy at the end of the season.

Antony has played 94 games for United since he signed for the club in 2022 but has scored just 12 goals and provided five assists, failing to justify the £86 million the club spent on him.

This has seen his value drop to just £16 million and become an outcast at the club, starting just twice since Amorim arrived.

Two further clubs interested in signing Antony on loan

Although the CaughtOffside report did not clarify if Newcastle responded to the offer for Antony, it stated that both Juventus and his former club Ajax are willing to take him on loan.

Juventus are searching for a new attacker in 2025 and have been strongly linked with United’s Joshua Zirkzee, with manager Thiago Motta keen to bring in reinforcements to his front line.

Benfica are also said to have been offered Antony, but none of these sides have so far submitted any form of bid for the player.

Offloading Antony is thought to be a key point in the January window for United, as his departure would allow United to sign much-needed reinforcements for Amorim.
