One Manchester United star has sparked interest again from Italian giants following previous transfer speculation.
Michael Carrick has been a brilliant appointment so far as Manchester United interim boss taking over from Ruben Amorim who triggered lots of controversy with his playing style at the club.
The former Portugal international was insistent on structuring United in a 3-4-2-1 system, often leaving key players either out of position or on the bench, sparking transfer interest from across Europe for United’s stars.
Carrick has been able to put those rumours to bed since his arrival, reviving a struggling squad and prioritising playing the squad to their strengths rather than forcing them into a systematic formula.
However, one transfer interest has re-emerged as the summer transfer window looms, with the club in question having a good track record of Man United signings.
Napoli still interested in Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo looked set for a departure in the Amorim era, with January seeing Napoli make their interest in the 20-year-old known.
SportWitness has reported that, amid Mainoo reportedly still having ‘lingering issues’ about signing a new contract, Italian giants Napoli have reignited their interest in Mainoo ahead of the summer transfer window.
Italian journalist Luca Marchetti provided the update, revealing that Mainoo remains “on Napoli’s radar” alongside other Premier League stars.
“João Gomes is still a target, and the same goes for Mainoo,” Marchetti said, as reported by Area Napoli. “When you follow certain players and haven’t signed anyone in that area, those profiles remain on the radar for the next transfer window.”
Whilst Mainoo has found himself back in United’s starting eleven under Carrick, Napoli still believe a move could materialise as they anticipate at least one midfield signing in the summer.
Napoli have a successful history with recruits from Old Trafford. Both Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund have found the best version of themselves at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Man Utd unlikely to sell Mainoo
It’s no secret how much Mainoo is adored at Old Trafford, arguably being the most exciting academy product since Marcus Rashford, earning a start for England in the Euros final and lifting the FA Cup under Erik ten Hag.
Carrick has allowed Mainoo to return to the starting line-up on every occasion under the former Middlesbrough manager, proving how pivotal a role he can play for the club.
With United pushing for a Champions League place next season, the club would need midfield reinforcements more than anything.

Casemiro has already announced his departure at the end of the season, with his four years at the club coming to a close. Meanwhile, fellow South American, Manuel Ugarte, also seems unlikely to have a future at the club after an underwhelming Man United career.
United will presumably spend the summer looking for a long-term solution to complete the trio alongside captain Bruno Fernandes and Mainoo.
Meanwhile, United must continue their pursuit of Champions League football with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa next in their path.
