Louis Saha has been extremely impressed by the progress of one French wonderkid who has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
Manchester United are looking to make several signings in the upcoming summer transfer window to improve Ruben Amorim’s squad.
The club are no longer focusing on big-name players who will cost monumental amounts, but instead aiming to bring in talented and hungry young talent.
Ayden Heaven and Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu both joined United in the latest January transfer window and those are examples of the type of player the Reds are looking at.
Rayan Cherki is one extremely talented youngster who could be on the move in the summer, with reports suggesting Lyon could sell the 21-year-old for around £20 million.
The attacking-midfielder has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford and caught the eye in his latest display for France U21s against England’s youth side last week.
Saha provides jaw-dropping Cherki assessment
Former United striker Louis Saha is well-aware of the talents that Cherki possesses and was asked in an interview this week whether the Frenchman could sign for a top Premier League club.
The 46-year-old offered a glowing assessment of Cherki and explained the growth that he’s seen in the player’s game over the last few months.
“I think I would have said differently three or four months ago, but I don’t know what happened in those two or three months.” Saha told gentingcasino.com.
“But my God, Cherki has shown not only growth, but he showed that ability to actually grow the other players around him. So this is a big ability and I’m telling you, in terms of quality, when you have this confidence in you it’s just not skills. It’s the ability to turn heads around.
“It’s the ability to actually provide this technique at the right moment, provide this volume of technique at the highest level I am very impressed. I’ve seen an improvement when you look at a few games that he has played, especially the top.”
United must look at signing Cherki
Reports have claimed that among several positions, the attacking midfield area is one which United are looking to improve upon in the summer window.
Amorim’s squad is still missing a creative spark to create goalscoring opportunities and Cherki is one talent who would offer that in abundance.
The 21-year-old has eight goals and a staggering 18 assists for Lyon so far this season but he also helps progress the play into the final third a lot through passes and driving with the ball.
According to Fbref, Cherki has been averaging 9.75 progressive passes and 4.49 progressive carries per 90 minutes – both are considered very high among players in his position amongst European’s top five leagues.
This seems like the type of talent that suits INEOS’ strategy and Amorim will get the chance to watch him first-hand during the upcoming Europa League clash against Lyon.
