Ayden Heaven made his Manchester United debut on Sunday evening during the club’s FA Cup defeat against Fulham.

Manchester United exited the FA Cup after losing on penalties against Fulham, with Joshua Zirkzee and Victor Lindelöf seeing their spot-kicks saved.

One of the few positives for United was Ayden Heaven’s extra-time performance, as the young defender made his first appearance under Ruben Amorim.

Signed in January for a reported £1.5 million, Heaven has been a regular on Amorim’s bench but had to wait for his chance, which finally came when Harry Maguire picked up a late injury on the weekend.

Thrown into the game at a challenging moment with Fulham pressing United’s defence, the 18-year-old looked composed, solid at the back, and confident in possession.

It was a promising debut, and Heaven will be eager for more opportunities as the season progresses and might even be eyeing a Europa League debut in the coming weeks.

MUTV pundit praises outstanding Heaven

Former United defender Phil Bardsley was impressed by Heaven’s debut at Old Trafford on the weekend and highlighted his “outstanding” positional sense.

Bardsley also mentioned that Amorim is “not afraid” to give these young players a chance, which may continue for Heaven in the upcoming games against Real Sociedad.

“We was talking while he was playing, for a young player his positional sense was outstanding. He got some really good clearances,” Bardsley said on MUTV punditry duty.

“Listen, if you’re a young player at Man United now you’ve got to make sure you’re ready because there’s chances and opportunities.

“The manager is not afraid to throw you in, they have to make sure they train well and make an impact.”

Heaven could be set for Europa League debut

Heaven has been included in United’s updated squad list for the Europa League knockout stages and will be hoping to make his European debut soon.

The teenager certainly impressed more than Lindelöf did in the FA Cup clash and should be ahead of him if Amorim wants to shuffle the backline.

Heaven is comfortable on the ball and that may be needed against their upcoming Spanish opposition.

While he may not start the game, Heaven should be prepared in case he is needed to come off the bench against Sociedad, with many United fans impressed by his start on the pitch.
