MUTV pundit picks out negative despite “outstanding” performance from Manchester United star
MUTV pundit and former Manchester United player Wed Brown has picked out one negative against Southampton despite a brilliant performance from “outstanding” André Onana.
After back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Liverpool, Manchester United bounced back with a 3-0 win over Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium.
The match kicked off at a high tempo, and after 30 minutes, Diogo Dalot conceded a penalty. However, André Onana’s save swung the momentum towards United. Shortly after, Matthijs de Ligt headed in a Bruno Fernandes cross for his first United goal, and Marcus Rashford doubled the lead with a curling effort before half-time.

Alejandro Garnacho sealed the victory in stoppage time with a powerful finish, securing three crucial points for United.
While Matthijs de Ligt was named Player of the Match, and Amad Diallo received a lot of rightful praise, Onana was another man who was picked out for his display.
Aside from his penalty save, the Cameroon international also made three saves and four recoveries, amassing 40 touches across the 90 minutes.
“The keeper was outstanding, and a clean sheet. There was lots of positives in this game,” former United player Wes Brown told MUTV after full-time.
“De Ligt [is my man of the match]. He had a lot of stick this week. He needed a big performance, and he put one in.
“Some of his clearances in the first half, he was in the right spots, he was solid. A clean sheet and to top it off with a goal, is a bonus.”
However, Brown also noted that the game was a missed opportunity to score more goals, feeling that there was a chance to increase the gap between the two sides by more than three.
“We should have scored a lot more goals. We should have done a lot better there,” Brown said.
Up next, United shift focus to the Carabao Cup, where they’ll face League One side Barnsley at Old Trafford in the third round—a tournament Erik ten Hag won in 2023.
