Michael Carrick is hoping for at least one injury return as Manchester United prepare to face Everton in the Premier League on Monday evening.
Manchester United step back into Premier League action on Monday night after a 13-day pause, as Michael Carrick leads his side into an away clash with Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The encounter will be the senior men’s first experience of Everton’s new stadium, although United’s women enjoyed a commanding 4–1 WSL victory over the Toffees at the venue in October 2025.
United travel looking to respond to their 1–1 draw with West Ham United a fortnight ago. Fourth in the standings ahead of the game-week, they hold a valuable position in the race for Champions League qualification.
Yet the pressure is building. Chelsea sit just one point behind in fifth, while Liverpool are three points back, meaning there is little room for error against David Moyes’s side. Below is United’s latest injury news ahead of the tie.
Mason Mount
What happened: Mason Mount did not feature against Fulham, Tottenham, or West Ham following a knock in training.
What’s been said: “Yeah, Mason is getting closer. I think we’ve been patient, so we don’t want to push anything”, Carrick told reporters on Friday. “We want him back, and he can have a big impact. He’s getting closer which is good for us.
Expected return date: Monday, 23 February – Everton (H).
Matthijs de Ligt
What happened: Matthijs de Ligt has missed every one of United’s fixtures since the end of November with a back injury, having played every minute of the first 13 Premier League games of United’s season.
What’s been said: “Matta is a little bit working towards it,” Carrick said. “He’s a bit behind Mason, so we’re just trying to work with him to progress him.”
Possible return date: 15 March – Aston Villa (H).
Harry Maguire
What happened: Harry Maguire was spotted holding his hamstring following a challenge with Crysencio Summerville in the first half of the tie against West Ham. He was then withdrawn in the 68th minute.
What’s been said: However, it has been relayed by United’s social media pages that the defender was back in training with the team late last week, suggesting that his problem was not a serious one.
Expected return date: Monday, 23 February – Everton (H).
Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu
What happened: Amid a fantastic run of form, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu sustained a hamstring injury against Arsenal, with initial reports suggesting that he could miss ten weeks of action.
What’s been said: “It could possibly [be up to ten weeks], we’re working through it,” Carrick recently commented. “Certainly looking forward to getting him back as quick as we can and getting [him] on the pitch long before the end of the season.”
Expected return date: Late March/early April.
