Morten Hjulmand stance on future as Manchester United receive significant transfer update from Sporting president

Manchester United have received a significant update on midfield target Morten Hjulmand ahead of the final month of the transfer window.

With Bryan Mbeumo now officially on board, Manchester United have shifted their focus to strengthening two key areas: centre-forward and central midfield.

Ruben Amorim will take encouragement from the arrivals of Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha; two attacking signings expected to inject fresh impetus and enhance the team’s forward play.

However, despite these additions, the club is still actively pursuing a natural number nine and a dynamic, high-energy midfielder, both seen as crucial to Amorim’s tactical vision at Old Trafford.

While further incomings are likely to hinge on player sales, United continue to monitor and prioritise their leading targets as they anticipate a potential boost to their transfer funds.

Hjulmand’s transfer stance as United receive update

Morten Hjulmand has been one of the midfielders being considered at Old Trafford this summer and he is a player Amorim rates highly.

The United boss called his former midfielder a ‘complete’ player when they were at Sporting together and recent reports suggested that he could be available for much less than his release clause.

But the latest information from Portuguese outlet A Bola explains that Sporting’s president Frederico Varandas has now made it clear that he will only allow Hjulmand to leave if his £69 million release clause is triggered.

It was added that an offer extremely close to that fee, with add-ons, would also be considered but any other bid is ‘unlikely’ to be accepted.

The report added that Hjulmand feels ‘very comfortable’ in Portugal and does not have the intention to leave the club this summer.

What is the most important transfer for United?

United are considering spending more than £60 million on Benjamin Sesko and that signing would take their summer spending to around £200 million.

Unless a surprise sale occurs to top up funds, it seems unlikely Amorim’s side would be able to sign Hjulmand for his release clause.

It could perhaps be a deal they consider if the move for a striker like Sesko falls through but it seems more likely that they would pivot towards another centre-forward in that case.

Some fans believe that the midfield is more important to strengthen this summer, especially after the additions of Cunha and Mbeumo.
