Michael Carrick has suggested that there should be ‘more to come’ from one of the Manchester United stars at Old Trafford.
Manchester United return to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon to take on Crystal Palace, buoyed by a hard-fought 1–0 victory away at Everton on Monday night.
Since Michael Carrick assumed control of the first team, United have collected 16 points from a possible 18, climbing to fourth place in the Premier League standings. They now sit three points ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool.
Palace’s season, meanwhile, has been less consistent. Following their FA Cup triumph last year, Oliver Glasner has been navigating a transitional phase after the exit of several influential players, leaving the Eagles 13th in the table.
A dramatic 90th-minute winner against Wolves, scored by on-loan winger Evann Guessand, delivered only their second win in 16 games. Despite that late boost, confidence within the squad remains delicate as they continue to balance league form with ambitions in the Europa Conference League.
Carrick gives clear opinion on ‘impressive’ United star’s future
It is unclear whether Lisandro Martínez will be back available for the clash against Palace but Harry Maguire is expected to continue in the heart of the defence.
The England international has started every game under Carrick so far and been important to the improved defensive performances.
Maguire’s contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer but reports suggest the club are aiming to offer him a new deal on lower wages.
Carrick was asked about the defender in his pre-match press conference and he claimed that he hopes there is ‘a lot more to come’ from Maguire at United, suggesting that he wants the defender to stay beyond the end of the season.
“Harry is an impressive character. He’s had a great career so far. Hopefully, there’s a lot more to come,” the interim United boss stated.
“I think even what he’s been here in the journey and the experiences that he’s had, certainly since he’s been here in England as well, I think it showed exactly what he is.
“I think we all know the player that he is and what he’s capable of doing. Again, the other night there, I thought he was fantastic. Experience helped and that.
“He served to his attributes help and that. And his character, his willingness to put himself out there. He’s really impressive. He’s been really important for us.”

What Maguire brings to United
United are going to be losing the experience of Casemiro in the summer and that should influence their stance on Maguire’s future.
Even if he is not a regular starter, Maguire would provide much-needed experience and leadership to the squad, which is largely filled with young talent.

Whoever is in charge will likely want to develop the likes of Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro, but having the senior option of Maguire in the squad would always be beneficial.
