Mikel Arteta delivers ‘remarkable’ assessment on Ruben Amorim before Arsenal vs Man Utd
Mikel Arteta has delivered a ‘remarkable’ assessment on Ruben Amorim before Arsenal’s game against Manchester United.
Ruben Amorim has enjoyed a solid start as Manchester United manager, securing two wins and a draw in his first three games, including a dominant 4-0 victory over Everton last weekend.
The United head coach will be pleased with how his players have adapted to his new system. However, a challenging test lies ahead with an upcoming Premier League clash against Arsenal, who currently sit second in the table.
Nine points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, Arsenal are in a position where every game is critical to maintaining their title challenge.
For United, this fixture represents an opportunity to play without pressure, and under Amorim’s guidance, they will look to upset the odds.
The Reds travel to the Emirates Stadium, where they have struggled in recent years, with their last win at the venue dating back to January 2019.
Amorim will be hoping to change that record and he has received some kind words from his opposition ahead of the trip to London.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta has praised the work Amorim has done at Old Trafford so far and labelled his achievements in Portugal as ‘remarkable’.
“Well, obviously you can see his fingerprints and what he wants to do straight away,” the Spanish coach told reporters.
“I think he’s been very clear, he’s been very successful. What he done at Sporting was remarkable after so many years, what he achieved there.
“Especially in the way he did it and the way his teams have been playing, he brings energy to a new club, new ideas for the players and that’s always something positive but we always focus on what we have to do.”
Amorim and Arteta have faced up against each other beforehand in the Europa League, where the United boss knocked out Arsenal with Sporting in the Europa League round-of-16.
“Not revenge,” smiled Arteta when asked if he will be eying getting even against his Portuguese counterpart.
“In football it is about another opportunity and whether you have beat or lose against any opponent, another game will be very different to the past.
“We learned that, we played against Sporting a few days ago and it was very different to two years ago. It has no meaning.”
