Michael Owen blasts “stupid” Manchester United star after 4/10 display vs Bournemouth
One of Manchester United’s star players has been branded “stupid” for an act against Bournemouth that contributed to his 4/10 rating on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United suffered a shocking 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, leaving Rúben Amorim’s side marooned in 13th place in the Premier League.
The game began evenly, with both sides eager to assert themselves. However, Bournemouth took the lead midway through the first half when Dean Huijsen capitalised on United’s frailty from set pieces, his looping header leaving the hosts stunned.
Bruno Fernandes was at the heart of United’s efforts to respond, driving his team forward as the first half came to a close. Despite his creativity and persistence, the home side went into the break trailing 1-0.
In the second half, Amorim made attacking changes to spark a turnaround, but Bournemouth remained disciplined and opportunistic. Noussair Mazraoui’s mistimed challenge on Justin Kluivert gifted the visitors a penalty, which Kluivert calmly converted in the 60th minute.
Moments later, Antoine Semenyo compounded United’s misery, firing in Bournemouth’s third goal to all but seal the result. United mounted a late push, but it was too little, too late, as Andoni Iraola’s side celebrated an unforgettable victory and left Old Trafford in disbelief.
Mazraoui branded “stupid” for error vs Bournemouth
While Joshua Zirkzee has been blasted aplenty for Bournemouth’s first goal, their second of the evening came after Mazraoui brought down Kluivert inside the area.
Speaking to Premier League Productions after the game, former United striker Michael Owen came down on the Moroccan international for his “stupid” challenge in the second half.
“You’re being kind. A little rash? A little stupid more like,” He said about the 4/10 player on Sunday afternoon.
“What on earth are you doing? Two players are waiting for him, he’s not going to score from there and he dives in.
“Just stay on your feet and usher him away. It’s just a poor, poor decision. The sad thing from Manchester United these days is they go 1-0 down and you never really think they’re going to come back.
“They’re not a good team. Rúben Amorim needs to be watching that game and ensure these players that are not performing do not put on the shirt again. He needs to be that brutal and that ruthless.”
