Mauricio Pochettino delivers clear Premier League message amid Man United interest
Mauricio Pochettino has delivered a clear Premier League message amid links with Manchester United.
The ongoing saga between Pochettino and United has been a topic of speculation for several years now.
The Argentine manager, who made a significant impact during his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur, has been repeatedly linked with the managerial role since the days when Jose Mourinho was at the helm at Old Trafford.
Pochettino’s recent departure from Chelsea by mutual consent has reignited these rumours. With Erik ten Hag’s position at United seemingly precarious, particularly as the club heads into the FA Cup final, speculation about Pochettino’s potential arrival has intensified.
Reports from The Times indicate that Pochettino is “interested in talking” to United if the club, now significantly influenced by INEOS, decides to part ways with Ten Hag this summer.
This renewed interest in Pochettino comes amid comments from former United players like Rio Ferdinand, who believe that Ten Hag’s fate may be sealed regardless of the FA Cup final outcome.
The Dutch manager, who has faced a challenging season, might find himself out of a job if INEOS, the new stakeholder, opts for a change in leadership.
The long-standing “flirtation” between Pochettino and Manchester United is seen by many as a potential perfect match, given his Premier League experience and a managerial style that emphasises attacking football and youth development.
Recent comments from the Argentine manager suggest that he would be open to an immediate return to the Premier League.
Having made his name as a young manager at Southampton, Pochettino has a great relationship with England’s top flight and recently celebrated hitting 400 games as a manager in English football following Chelsea’s game against Tottenham Hotspur two weeks ago.
“A proud personal moment last night – 400 games in English football,” he wrote on his Instagram page. “One of the best decisions of my life, and I hope to add to this number for a long time to come.”
It is clear that Pochettino sees a return to the Premier League, and potentially United, as his next steps. INEOS now need to assess whether he’s the right option if they decide to part ways with Ten Hag.
