Matthijs de Ligt’s wage packet at Manchester United has been revealed as Erik ten Hag contemplates three potential debuts for the upcoming Fulham clash.

United completed the signing of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt on a five-year contract on Tuesday evening.

The Bundesliga giants and the Red Devils agreed on a deal worth an initial £38.6 million for the defender, with an additional £4.2 million in easily attainable add-ons.

The Dutch centre-back will provide crucial quality and depth to United’s defence following the departure of Raphaël Varane.

Prior reports from German journalist Christopher Michael explained that De Ligt was willing to take a pay cut to make the move to Old Trafford.

His salary at Bayern Munich was around £12.8 million per year, which works out to around £246,000 per week.

Of course, United are trying to move away from offering monumental amounts to players, and a wage reduction was needed to make this move.

The aforementioned report added that United were willing to offer De Ligt a salary of less than £10.3 million, which works out to be around £198,000 per week.

With De Ligt’s wages being lower than that amount, it is likely that he is on a similar amount to Harry Maguire, who reportedly earns around £190,000 per week.

Meanwhile, the Dutch defender could be in line to make his United debut on Friday in their Premier League opener against Fulham.

While Erik ten Hag opted against starting Joshua Zirkzee in the Community Shield, De Ligt could be an argument to start the game this week due to his potential importance in the backline.

With Leny Yoro and Victor Lindelöf injured, De Ligt could line up alongside Lisandro Martínez at the heart of the defence.

Ten Hag also has two other important calls to make, with the possibility of starting Zirkzee after having over a week of team training. However, the manager could also stick with the unorthodox option of Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount in the central attacking positions.

It is more likely that Noussair Mazraoui will get his debut, with the defender being able to cover the left-back position. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are currently injured, while Harry Amass is not yet considered ready for competitive first-team football.

The game kicks off at 20:00 BST on Friday and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
