Matthijs de Ligt told Manchester United’s transfer stance following Leny Yoro deal
Manchester United have reportedly made their stance on a move for Matthijs de Ligt this summer following the transfer of Leny Yoro from Lille.
Earlier this year, it was decided by the leadership team at Old Trafford that Erik ten Hag‘s squad needed reinvigoration at centre-back, with multiple players either suffering from injury issues, poor form, or bloated contracts.
So far this summer, Raphaël Varane and Willy Kambwala have already left the club, and 18-year-old Lille sensation Leny Yoro is seemingly set to sign in the coming days.

However, it has been widely reported across the last few months that United want to sign two centre-backs if possible and have been closely linked with both Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.
While United have seen two bids totalling £43 million and £50 million rejected for the former, they seemed much closer to a deal for the latter before the signing of Yoro jumped to the front pages.
It has been widely stated that United are trying to negotiate transfers with a strict budget this summer due to profit and sustainability regulations but are still keen to sign two defenders despite Yoro’s £52 million transfer fee.
According to Manchester World, United have now assumed the stance that although they have signed Yoro, they are still keen on bringing De Ligt to the club by refusing to rule out a move.
However, it is stated that United will need to secure the sale of Victor Lindelöf and maybe even Harry Maguire for such a deal to go through, with the club needing to spend in the region of £40 million in order to secure De Ligt from Bayern.
Previous reports have detailed that personal terms will not be a problem with De Ligt as the player has already agreed on contract terms with United. However, despite United and Bayern having been in discussions surrounding a fee, there has still been no official offer from the club.
United want a deal to conclude at around £38 million, while Bayern Munich are pushing for as much as £42 million.
