Matheus Cunha looks like one of Manchester United’s priority transfer targets to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad for next season.
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha in the upcoming summer transfer window — and it’s no surprise why.
The 25-year-old has impressed this season with 14 goals and four assists in the Premier League, despite Wolves facing a challenging campaign at Molineux.
In contrast, United’s leading scorer in the league, Bruno Fernandes, has just eight goals, while Rasmus Højlund has managed only three in 28 appearances.
Although United are targeting a new striker, there’s also a clear need for creativity and goal threat in the attacking positions behind the main forward. Cunha could offer a valuable solution in that area.
Fabrizio Romano issues Cunha transfer update
It was reported this week that an agreement for Cunha to join United is ‘inching closer’ and Fabrizio Romano has since provided further information on the situation.
The Italian journalist has stated that United are now leading the race to sign Cunha and that negotiations are ongoing.
He explained that personal terms are being discussed with the player as United are aware of the potential competition for the player.
It was finally claimed that there are ‘good feelings’ following those initial talks between Cunha and the Old Trafford officials.
The Wolves star has a £62.5 million release clause in his current contract at the Molineux, which he signed earlier this season.
Cunha’s wages revealed amid United interest
It was only in February when Cunha put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at Wolves but the release clause being included suggested that an exit was always still on the cards.
Laurie Whitwell has explained that Cunha’s wages at Wolves after that extension has risen to around £150,000-per-week and he is the highest-paid player at the club.
With personal terms being discussed with United, you would imagine there will be another increase in Cunha’ wages but the Reds will want to make sure it isn’t too much.

As things stand, United only have three players on over £200,000-per-week at the club and INEOS will not want many more as they try to improve the financial situation.
Instead, it would be more likely to see the Brazilian move closer to the likes of Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt, who are both earning around £190,000-per-week, if he joins the club.
