Matheus Cunha sends message after Manchester United injury as “really competitive” claim made

Manchester United won their first game of the season against Burnley on the weekend but Matheus Cunha was withdrawn early with an injury.

After a difficult start to the season, Manchester United won 3-2 against Burnley on the weekend to ensure they headed into the international break on a positive note.

But in that game Matheus Cunha was forced off with an injury after he looked to pull his hamstring as he attempted to run into the final third.

The Brazilian international has been one of the best performers so far this term and United fans were concerned to see him pull up on the Old Trafford turf.

It has been confirmed that he will not play with Brazil over the international break and fans are awaiting updates on how long the forward could be out for.

Cunha sends message after United injury

Cunha’s disappointment was obvious when he realised he suffered the injury and his teammates were quick to console him.

United uploaded a video on Monday morning which showed the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu and Joshua Zirkzee supporting their injured teammate as he left the pitch.

The post was captioned: “There for each other ❤️” and Cunha himself responded on Instagram, sending a flaming heart emoji in the comments of the post.

Amorim made it clear after the game that Cunha – alongside Mason Mount, who also suffered an injury – is crucial to the team.

“I don’t know [how they are], I don’t know. We will check them,” he said in his press conference. “We need those guys really bad to be really competitive.”

United’s alternatives vs City

The international break has come at a good time when considering those two injuries, and the best scenario sees Mount and Cunha both involved against Manchester City later this month.

Cunha was spotted walking out of Old Trafford after that Burnley game and did not seem in huge discomfort, which is a positive sign.

But if they are out of action for the derby, it could allow Bruno Fernandes to return to his favoured position at the Etihad Stadium.

The club captain seems like the most likely player to take that left-sided no.10 role while Kobbie Mainoo could come into the midfield alongside Casemiro. That is what happened after Mount came off for Mainoo in the second half against Burnley.
