Mason Mount reveals the Manchester United squad’s views on Rúben Amorim after 2-0 Sunderland win

Mason Mount has revealed the squad’s views on Rúben Amorim after Manchester United’s 2-0 win at home to newly promoted Sunderland.

Manchester United went into Saturday’s game against Sunderland needing a win after a disappointing defeat away to Brentford last weekend. A loss would’ve piled the pressure on Rúben Amorim, but United comfortably won 2-0.

Mason Mount – who replaced Matheus Cunha in the starting lineup – scored the first goal of the game with a brilliant two-touch move from a Bryan Mbeumo cross. The former Chelsea midfielder controlled the ball with his left before finishing with composure with his right.

Benjamin Šeško scored the second and final goal of the match, with a poacher’s goal from a Diogo Dalot long throw. United’s new centre forward netted his second in as many games against Sunderland and will look to build on his goal-scoring momentum after the international break.

While it wasn’t a brilliant performance, United were clearly the better side and looked a cut above their Premier League counterparts, despite Sunderland’s positive start to the campaign.

There were rumours in mid-week that some United players had lost faith in Amorim’s system, but the performance at Old Trafford said otherwise.

Mount reveals the squad support Amorim

After the 2-0 win, Mount was one of the United players to face the press and the difficult questions about United’s start to the season.

As reported by Irish News, Mount said: “For us, it’s just focusing on what the manager wants and that’s in training. And then when it comes to the games, doing exactly what he asked for.

“And I think, as you see today, we stuck to the job in hand. Everyone did their roles and responsibilities and it was a good performance.”

Mount continued to say: “Obviously, even in this season, we’ve gone through ups and downs, but we’re together and we’ll continue to be together with the manager, with the staff, to continue moving forward.

“I think it was massive to really start sharp. Big for character to step up after a difficult game and we did that. Now we’ve got to push on. We obviously have a bit of a break now for the next game, but we need to take positives from this game and take them into the next one.”

Mount was also asked about the impressive performances from new boys Šeško and Senne Lammens, as the Belgian made his first appearance since signing from Royal Antwerp on Deadline Day.

“I mean, for Ben [Šeško], scoring his goal was so important,” said Mount. “I’m absolutely over the moon for him. And obviously, Senne [Lammens] coming in as well. It was a solid performance.

“Any danger of them pressing, he puts it into Ben and we work off that. I think he kind of released the pressure a lot today.

“And everyone was around him. Altay (Bayindir) was around him. Tom (Heaton) was around him before the game – and that shows the togetherness we have.”
