Chido Obi scored twice as Manchester United wrapped up their post-season tour with a 3-1 win over Hong Kong, with Mason Mount full of praise for the teenager after full-time.
Ruben Amorim’s side fell behind early in the match after a Tom Heaton error and were wasteful in front of goal during a sluggish first half.
Halftime changes brought more spark, with Mason Mount and Amad injecting energy, while 17-year-old Chido Obi impressed with two well-taken goals—a powerful left-footed finish and a sharp header—showcasing the kind of youthful talent these tours are meant to highlight.
Ayden Heaven added a third in stoppage time, nodding in a superb cross from Amad to seal the win and ensure that the United supporters who appeared for the game had something to be happy about.
Though Obi went goalless in his seven Premier League appearances last season, his movement and striker’s instinct were clear once again in Hong Kong and he has impressed his teammates.
Mount names standout ability Obi possesses
Mason Mount was the player who delivered a great cross for Obi’s second goal and the midfielder looked sharp himself during the game.
Speaking to club media afterwards, Mount was very complimentary of the Danish starlet and his ‘good movement’ inside the box.
“Chido is a very good player,” the 26-year-old smiled when asked about his youthful teammate.
“I’ve obviously played with him loads, but in training you can see what he’s about. He’s got good movement and as a No.10, you want to try put balls into the box for him to get on the end of.
“He’s a threat with the ball in the air. All the young kids who played today stepped up in difficult circumstances and all performed very well, so I’m very happy for them.”
United need striker with good movement
Obi’s movement was clear to see during his appearances last season. He was able to create chances for himself but failed to finish in those games.
But it is clear that the movement in and around the box is the difference between getting chances and looking isolated and lost. Rasmus Hojlund has often been the latter.
Good strikers will create chances for themselves with that movement and Hojlund has simply been unable to do so during his time at Old Trafford.

United are planning to sign a striker this summer and whoever it is, they must be able to have that natural striker’s instinct which sees them grab chances inside the area from knowing where to be.
