Mason Mount completed his move from Chelsea to join Manchester United on Wednesday morning.

The midfielder signed a five year deal at Old Trafford with there being an option to extend a further year.

Mount will join up with his new teammates on Thursday ahead of their pre-season tour.

The England international was Erik ten Hag’s first-choice signing for the midfield position and Mount was moved by the Dutchman’s proposal despite interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.

Provided with United’s iconic no.7 shirt, Mount clearly has the full backing from his new boss, who first started monitoring his development when on loan at Eredivisie club SBV Vitesse in 2017/18.

Mount, who was at Chelsea since the age of six, has made two promises to United fans in relation to success and hard work.

The attacking midfielder is familiar with silverware at every level. He was part of one of the most successful youth teams at Chelsea, winning back-to-back FA Youth Cups, as well as reaching the pinnacle of European football in 2021 when he won the Champions League with The Blues.

“It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career,” began Mount. “Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.

“I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”

Alongside the silverware, however, comes extreme hard work. United have become to familiar with players who have not given their all for the club but Mount has vowed to work effortlessly to help Ten Hag and the team move forwards.

“Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here.”

The playmaker could make his unofficial debut for the club in under two weeks as United face up against Championship club Leeds in Norway for their first pre-season fixture.
