Mason Greenwood’s transfer preference revealed amid second Manchester United bid confirmation
Mason Greenwood’s transfer preference this summer has been explained amid confirmation from the Lazio club president of their bid towards Manchester United.
Mason Greenwood, 22, is anticipated to leave Manchester United this summer following his loan spell at Spanish club Getafe during the 2023/24 season.
The forward, who netted eight goals in La Liga last term, is reportedly valued at around £40 million by the club. Several teams from various leagues have expressed interest in Greenwood.

However, it seemed last week that Marseille would be the side who secured the Englishman’s services after they had a bid of £23.3 million plus a further £3.4 million in add-ons as well as a sell on clause of around 50% accepted by the English club.
However, Lazio president Claudio Lotito has confirmed that the Serie A side have also submitted a second bid for the player which sits just under what Marseille currently have on the table.
Speaking to Italian outlet Il Messaggero, as relayed by Sosfanta, Lotito accused two Italian rivals of trying to scupper a deal. “I offered 25 million [euros, £21 million] plus 50 per cent of the resale, plus bonuses and commissions,” he confirmed.
“Yet several companies have slipped in to do a disruptive action. After Juventus, Napoli, it seems that everyone is jinxing it, they are terrified that we can take him and they want to ruin everything.”
However, unfortinately for Lotito and Lazio, it seems that it is not just their rival clubs that are trying to tank their deal, but the player himself is prioritising a move elsewhere.
According to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, Marseille is the option that Mason Greenwood “likes the most” despite the fact that both clubs remain in talks with United.
Having reached an agreemenet with United, Marseille are said to be confident that they will be able to secure the signature of the player who scored 10 goals for Getafe last season.
Speaking recently, Marseille boss Roberto de Zerbi caused a stir online when asked about Greenwood in his first press conference as a new manager in Ligue 1, saying: “Greenwood isn’t recruited yet, so there isn’t much to say. He’s a champion, an international-level player.
“I don’t know what happened, I’m not concentrating on private lives. When a player signs for the club, I consider him my child. Even if I can pull his ear in private, I will defend him publicly. My players are like my sons.”
