Marseille president reveals Mason Greenwood latest amid £100m transfer rumours and Man Utd boost

Olympique de Marseille president Pablo Longoria has revealed the latest regarding former Manchester United star Mason Greenwood, amid recent transfer rumours.

Manchester United permanently parted ways with their Carrington graduate, Mason Greenwood, in 2024 as he moved to France to pursue a new challenge.

Greenwood has since taken to life in Marseille like a duck to water and is currently topping the goal-scoring charts with 11 goals in only 16 games.

Under the management of former Premier League manager Roberto De Zerbi, the English winger has started developing into the talent that many suspected he would be.

This progression has grown Greenwood’s value immensely, and any sale could provide a major boost to Ruben Amorim’s Reds, who have a significant sell-on percentage.

Longoria explains latest on Greenwood

As reported by Get Football News France, United still hold a large sell-on percentage for Greenwood, which was reduced by 10% last season once Marseille chose to increase their ownership rights of the player.

When speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Marseille president Pablo Longoria revealed that the club can further increase their ownership of Greenwood’s economic rights in case of another Champions League qualification at the end of the season.

Longoria said, “Regarding the contractual situation, OM holds 60% of the player’s economic rights and 100% of his sporting rights, with the possibility of increasing this to 65%.

“In that case, we can add 5% for qualification to the Champions League.” This would leave Manchester United with 35% of the player’s economic rights amid rumours that they could push to secure as much as £100 million for the forward.

Greenwood’s progression at Marseille

The Marseille president continued by stating that the club are incredibly pleased with their young winger’s progress, and they see his hard work as ‘extraordinary’.

“We are very pleased with Mason’s progress,” added Longoria. “We know his talent, but the work that Roberto De Zerbi is doing with him is extraordinary.“

The French side currently sit third in Ligue 1, which would be good enough to qualify them for the Champions League.

Greenwood’s hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed by some of Europe’s elite sides, with the £100million-rated Englishman being linked to Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and many more, as stated by TeamTalk.
