Marcus Rashford’s ‘ideal transfer’ hits “very serious” problem after Manchester United omissions
Marcus Rashford’s reported ideal destination for a summer transfer has hit a stumbling block following his multiple omissions from Manchester United’s squads.
Marcus Rashford is set to depart Manchester United in 2025 after a candid interview revealed the 27-year-old is seeking a new challenge in his career.
The forward, who once dazzled with a 30-goal campaign under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23, has seen his influence wane in recent seasons. Under Rúben Amorim, he has fallen down the pecking order, with players like Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes now taking centre stage in attacking roles.
A lifelong Red, Rashford’s journey at United began nearly 20 years ago. He burst onto the scene at 18, scoring twice on his Europa League debut against FC Midtjylland and repeating the feat against Arsenal in his Premier League debut just days later.
With the club reportedly willing to accept offers around £40 million, Rashford’s departure appears imminent, closing a chapter on his storied time at Old Trafford as he looks to embrace new opportunities elsewhere.
Rashford’s ideal transfer destination hits “very serious” problem
According to a report from The Telegraph earlier this month, Rashford’s ideal destination would be a move to Spain in 2025.
However, the latest report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, there has been a fresh stumbling block despite initial interest from La Liga giants Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
According to the report, Rashford is demanding upwards of £300,000 per week in wages, causing a “very serious” problem for both sides, both of which are suffering financial restraints after seasons of lavish spending.
Both teams are said to be “generating reluctance” about the player as they are not entirely sure if they can gamble on the 27-year-old returning to his best form.
Rashford has been left out of Amorim’s last four matchday squads against Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Rashford will find it hard to find a new club
Following his bombshell interview where he admitted he wanted a new challenge, media reports from across Europe have generally followed the trend that clubs are reluctant to take him on board.
On Sunday, it was reported in Italy that Rashford had been offered to Napoli by United through intermediaries, but based on his wage demands, the move would be “impossible” to materialise.
It’s been stated by various outlets that a move to Saudi Arabia is a possibility due to the deep pockets of Middle Eastern clubs, but it would be unlikely that Rashford would accept a move to the Saudi Pro League as of yet.
Speaking recently, former Premier League striker Alan Shearer explained that he feels the club have to back Amorim’s decision to leave Rashford out of sides and move the player on as soon as they can.
“They have to back Amorim,” said the Betfair ambassador. “They’ve brought him in because it hasn’t been anywhere near good enough and he needs to sort that mess out.
“He has to be able to do what he wants, and the situation with Marcus Rashford will be sorted out, whether it’s sorted out in January, I guess for both parties will come to an agreement, but that’s part of the process of who he wants to get out of the club and who he wants to bring in.
“Clearly, it isn’t a healthy situation for the club, if Marcus doesn’t want to be there and the manager doesn’t want him there either.
“If that is the case, then it’s best for both parties that something sooner rather than later is sorted out – that’s easier said than done when you’re on a huge contract.”
