Marcus Rashford’s stance on Erik ten Hag staying at Man United, sends clear message
Marcus Rashford’s stance on Erik ten Hag staying at Manchester United has been revealed, and the forward is sending a clear message.
Rashford, 26, had an underwhelming season last term, scoring eight goals and providing five assists.
United’s no.10 was the star man during Erik ten Hag’s first season at the club. He was the first player at Old Trafford to score 30 goals in a single season since Robin van Persie in 2012/13.
However, like many other players, Rashford’s performance levels dropped, and his off-field actions were not ideal either. He was twice disciplined by Ten Hag during the season, which led to reports of friction between the pair.
It has since been confirmed that the Dutch coach will remain in the hot seat at Old Trafford, and Rashford’s stance has been outlined.
A source told SunSport that Rashford was pleased with the decision, despite problems between them during a difficult season.
“Marcus knows one thing with ten Hag and that is that he really rates him,” the source said. “He knows he’s underperformed big time but has been telling his friends that he’s coming back strong this next season.
“He knows a new manager could have come in and got rid of him. He doesn’t want to go anywhere and wants to get back to his best.”
Rashford will have a full summer of rest due to not being involved in England’s Euro 2024 campaign, which could be a blessing in disguise for the forward.
Despite this, the aforementioned report added that the 26-year-old was “shocked” at his omission from Gareth Southgate’s 33-man preliminary squad.
“Marcus knew his position within Gareth’s Euros squad was at risk as he has struggled this season, but he was really shocked to not even make the 33,” the source added.
“He thought he had enough credit in the bank.”
