Marcus Rashford’s new loan decision is set to cause Manchester United a transfer headache
Marcus Rashford’s latest decision regarding a loan move this month is set to cause Manchester United a headache before the winter transfer deadline.
Manchester United are pushing for Marcus Rashford to leave on loan in January after the 27-year-old admitted he is ready for a new challenge.
Once a key figure in United’s attack, Rashford reached his peak with a 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. However, his form has dipped in recent seasons, and under Rúben Amorim, he has fallen down the pecking order. With Amad and Bruno Fernandes now regulars in the starting XI, Rashford has not featured in United’s last six matches.
Rashford’s connection to the club runs deep, having spent nearly two decades at Old Trafford. His career began with a spectacular debut at 18, scoring twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League before netting another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League.
Reports indicate that United are prepared to sanction a loan move for Rashford in January, with a permanent transfer expected in the summer. His departure now seems inevitable, bringing an end to his long-standing chapter at the club as he looks to embark on a fresh start elsewhere.
Rashford makes new transfer decision
Rashford has been linked with multiple clubs across Europe in the last month, although United are yet to receive any official offer for a six-month loan.
It has been reported many times that the player’s favoured destination is a move to Barcelona, with the La Liga club having been admirers of him for the last few seasons.
However, with Barcelona currently at their cap for wages, they have asked if the player would be willing to take a wage reduction to sign for them with United paying part of his salary until June.
However, according to TBRFootball, Rashford has now taken the decision that he will not take any form of pay cut, which has significantly reduced his chances of signing for the Catalan giants.
Rashford causes a transfer headache for United
The decision taken by Rashford that he will refuse to take a pay cut on his current salary is going to cause a problem for United, as it will hinder their ability to make any further signings before the end of the window.
United have been linked with Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel as a potential replacement should Rashford leave, with Amorim admitting that although United would be a better player with Rashford in the team, he must do more to prove himself in training.
United want whoever signs Rashford on loan to pay the majority of his wages because it would free up space in their budget to bring in another player after Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven, but Rashford not taking a pay cut and Barcelona asking for the majority of his wages to be covered by United stops this.
Unless a solution is found with just four days remaining in the winter window, United will carry this transfer headache onto deadline day. Rashford may end up staying at the club beyond 3 February and continue to collect his full wage from United.
