Marcus Rashford ‘agrees personal terms’ for January Barcelona loan as club willing to pay his wages
According to a new report, Marcus Rashford has agreed on personal terms to exit Old Trafford on a six-month loan before the transfer window’s final weeks.
Manchester United are pushing for Marcus Rashford to leave on loan in January after the 27-year-old revealed his desire to take on a new challenge.
Once the focal point of United’s attack, Rashford hit his peak with a remarkable 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. However, his form has since declined, and under Rúben Amorim, he has slipped down the pecking order. Amad and Bruno Fernandes have cemented their places in the team, while Rashford has not featured in the last six matches.
Rashford’s bond with United runs deep, stretching nearly two decades. His breakthrough as an 18-year-old remains iconic, with a stunning debut that saw him score twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, followed by another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League.
Reports indicate United are ready to send Rashford out on loan in January, with a permanent transfer expected in the summer. His departure now feels inevitable, bringing an end to a remarkable chapter at Old Trafford as he looks ahead to a fresh start elsewhere.
Rashford agrees personal terms for Barcelona loan
According to a new report from Spanish outlet SPORT, Rashford and Barcelona have now agreed on personal terms that would see the winger switch to La Liga until 30 June 2025.
Barcelona has previously been described as Rashford’s No. 1 transfer destination should he leave United this month, although there was doubt over whether a move could materialise due to financial restraints.
Earlier this month, Barcelona underwent significant financial maneuvering in order to be able to register Dani Olmo, who has since been ruled out through injury.
According to the above report, In order for Rashford to join, Barcelona would have to offload one of their own, with the most likely option being centre-back Eric Garcia, who is not in manager Hansi Flick’s plans and is of interest to Serie A side Como.
Rashford’s wages are not an issue for Barcelona
While Borussia Dortmund have been keen to bring in Rashford, previous reports have explained that the Bundesliga club do not want to pay a significant portion of wages and will not compromise on this.
However, according to Relevo, the same issue is not as apparent with Barcelona.
As per the report, there will be a meeting between Rashford and Barcelona that will understand the feasibility of securing a loan transfer, with the Catalan club willing to satisfy the demands of both United and Rashford.
The only issue standing in the way of the deal is Barcelona being able to fit Rashford within their current wage structure, as they are almost full with respect to their wage cap.
