Marcus Rashford is full of appreciation for former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, revealing how influential he was in his journey to the world stage.
Marcus Rashford has been loving life in Spain, becoming Barcelona’s best outlet for goals and assists so far this season, combining with some of the world’s best: Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Pedri and Lewandowski.
The Englishman joined Barcelona on loan in the summer, taking the No. 14 shirt following footballing great Thierry Henry and has found fantastic form under Hansi Flick, currently sitting second in La Liga.
Rashford has re-instated himself in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, but it was a different coach that Rashford shared his appreciation for.
From 2018-2021, Rashford played under the management of United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who had Manchester United playing some of the best football since Sir Alex Ferguson, before he was then dismissed in November 2021
Rashford describes Ole as a “fantastic person” and crucial to his development
Rashford told Norwegian outlet TV2, “Ole is a fantastic person. I can speak for many of the players at Manchester United when I say that we enjoyed playing for him. We played good football under Ole.”
Solskjaer came into the United dressing room following a poor start to the season from Jose Mourinho, and Solskjær got United back on track, with Rashford scoring three minutes into Solskjaer’s management in a 5-1 win against Cardiff.
Speaking further, the winger also revealed that he feels that period was very successful for himself, attributing this to Solskjær. “It was a very successful period for me personally,” Rashford said. “He is a fantastic person, and I don’t have a bad word to say about him.”
Rashford also scored the winner in ‘That night in Paris’ in 2019 as United came back to win 3-1 against PSG with a last-minute penalty to advance past the French giants.
Rashford continues to perform for Barcelona
Rashford’s high standards of performance have impressed Barcelona fans, as he looks more likely to make a permanent move away from Old Trafford.
But the 27-year-old always shows love for his childhood club, particularly for Solskjaer, as Rashford had some of his best individual seasons as a Manchester United player under the Norwegian’s management, accumulating 30 goals and assists in the 2019/20 season.
Now, Rashford will be looking to secure his name on England’s World Cup squad in 2026, with the Left-Wing position looking uncertain for the three Lions.
Rashford’s affectionate words about his former boss clearly show his optimistic attitude and appreciation for the progress he has made in his career, as well as the iconic memories he made for himself and those who cheered him on during the challenging days in a Manchester United shirt.
