Marcus Rashford admitted that Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Barcelona on Thursday “felt like a loss” but claimed that The Reds now know that they can “hurt” the Spanish side at Old Trafford next week.

The English forward was the star of the show at the Camp Nou, playing a major part in both of United’s goals on the night.

Rashford scored the equaliser for the visitors from an incredibly narrow-angle before creating his team’s second goal with an excellent run and cross from a short-corner routine.

Unfortunately, despite Erik ten Hag’s side providing an excellent display in Spain, they were unable to get the upper hand in the tie due to defensive mistakes – both of Barcelona’s goals could’ve been avoided.

“It feels like a loss,” Rashford told BT Sport. “I think we did well to get back in the game, the first half was probably a little bit in favour of them.

“But I think we stayed calm, we stayed composed, and we tried to create chances when we could. In the second half, we scored two goals in quick succession and we felt in control of the outcome.

“But they’re a good team with top players and they managed to get an equaliser.”

United were playing some great football in the second half of the encounter and will have confidence going into the return leg at Old Trafford next week.

They have lost just once at the Theatre of Dreams this season – that being the opening game of the season – and Rashford is confident ahead of facing Barcelona again, saying: “For the next game, we know that we can hurt them.”

The forward has been in excellent form, scoring 14 goals since the World Cup return. His manager has been delighted with his development but also recognises the importance of the collective to allow Rashford to flourish.

“He is so unstoppable in this moment,” Ten Hag told MUTV. “He has such a high belief of scoring goals but I have to credit the team because they bring him in the right position every time.”
