Marcus Rashford contract situation clarified as Wout Weghorst sets target at Manchester United

Manchester United are confident of securing Marcus Rashford on a new deal at the club whilst loan signing Wout Weghorst has outlined his main target for his six-month spell.
Rashford, 25, has 17 months remaining on his contract at Old Trafford after United triggered the one-year option clause in his contract in late December, alongside three others.
The Manchester Evening News have reported that whilst an agreement is not imminent, sources say that both parties want a new contract, with United comfortable with the situation.
The English forward, who has scored 16 goals for The Reds this season, is set to receive a pay rise on his wages of £200,000-a-week, but United are hesitant to break into the £300,000’s as they focus on ensuring one player does not earn significantly more than others.
Meanwhile, Wout Weghorst has described lifting silverware as his primary aim whilst he wears red for the remainder of the season.
“Trophies, it’s quite easy,” answered Weghorst when asked about his ambitions this season. “That’s also what the manager told me about — expectations are there. Also my role and, yeah, that’s also something I want to bring.”
The Dutch forward will provide Ten Hag with an alternative option to Anthony Martial, who was substituted at half-time against Manchester City since he was not 100% fit.
“I want to score goals here,” he added. “I’m a striker and I think every striker knows it; you are living for scoring goals. That is definitely something I want to achieve here also. For me as a striker, in the end, it’s also all about goals.”
