Marcus Rashford is seemingly becoming desperate to leave Manchester United this month after he’s informed Barcelona of his new stance ahead of a potential loan.

Manchester United are keen to send Marcus Rashford out on loan in January after the 27-year-old revealed his desire to seek a new challenge.

Once the focal point of United’s attack, Rashford enjoyed a stellar 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. However, his form has since declined, and under Rúben Amorim, he has fallen out of favour. Amad and Bruno Fernandes have established themselves in key roles, while Rashford has been left out of United’s last six matchday squads.

Rashford’s ties to the club stretch back nearly 20 years, beginning with his meteoric rise as an 18-year-old. His unforgettable debut saw him score twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, followed by another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League just days later.

United are reportedly ready to facilitate a loan move for Rashford in January, with a permanent transfer expected in the summer. His departure seems all but certain, signalling the end of an extraordinary era at Old Trafford as he looks ahead to the next chapter of his career.

Rashford hands ‘gesture’ to Barcelona

It has long been known that the winger’s ideal destination this month is and remains Barcelona, but that the Catalan side’s financial problems are causing a problem.

With a wage cap in place, they cannot afford to pay Rashford his £300,000 a week plus salary, but would like the player to join them if a solution can be gound.

According to the front page of Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) Rashford has now made a ‘gesture’ to Barcelona that he is willing to lower his wage demands to get a deal across the line, showing a clear desperation to leave United and join the La Liga giants.

Barcelona sporting director Deco held talks with Arturo Canales, who is acting as the intermediary in the deal, before their 5-4 win over Benfica earlier this week, where they were informed of this.

United and Rashford must both co-operate

In order for Rashford’s proposed loan to Barcelona to become a reality, it’s stated that both Rashford and United must make consessions.

United are keen to see the player leave on loan for the rest of the season as it would allow the media circus around his continued absence to subside in the short term. Still, according to the report, they must contribute to his salary themselves.

It’s said that United must cover at least 50% of Rashford’s wages until the end of the season if he joins Hansi Flick’s side, particularly if they fail to get rid of a player before the deadline.

There are multiple Barcelona players who may exit Camp Nou in the coming week, which would give the club more flexibility to sign Rashford, but should this not materialise, United will need to contribute.
