Manchester United ‘desperate’ to finalise Marcus Rashford transfer as ex-striker now involved in talks
Manchester United are now reportedly desperate to finalise Marcus Rashford’s move to AC Milan in January as a former Old Trafford striker becomes involved in the deal.
Marcus Rashford looks set to leave Manchester United in 2025 following a candid interview in which the 27-year-old revealed his desire to explore a new challenge.
Once the star of United’s attack with a stunning 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23, Rashford has struggled for form and prominence in recent campaigns.
Under Rúben Amorim, he has fallen down the pecking order, with Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes taking on more prominent roles in attack. He has not been involved in any of United’s last six games.
Having been part of United for nearly 20 years, Rashford burst onto the scene as an 18-year-old with two goals against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, quickly followed by another double against Arsenal in the Premier League.
With Manchester United reportedly willing to accept offers of around £40 million, Rashford’s departure seems inevitable as he prepares to close the chapter on his storied Old Trafford career and seek fresh opportunities elsewhere.
United desperate to finalise AC Milan transfer
Reports earleir thsi week confirmed htat Rashford’s brother and representivie Dwayne Maynard had flown to Italy for talks with Serie A side AC Milan.
Italian transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio then confirmed that the Rossoneri club had sent United an official offer of a loan with an option to buy the player in the summer.
According to CaughtOffside, United are now prepared to pay part of the 27-year-old’s salary across the next few months of the season should he depart for Milan, as they are “desperate” to get the deal done.
It is claimed that Rashford has outsourced a major UK-based agency to secure a move away from United this month.
The reason United are willing to subsidise the player’s wage during a loan move is they feel no suitors will come forward and pay his entire £325,000 a week wage package, with even deep-pocketed Saudi Arabian clubs not willing to do so.
Ibrahimović has become part of negotiations
Further, it has been explained that former United striker Zlatan Ibrahimović has become a key figure in the bid to secure Rashford at the San Siro for at least the remainder of 2024/25.
Since retiring in 2023, Ibrahimović has remained a prominent figure associated with Milan, now serving as an ambassador for RedBird Capital Partners, a New York-based private equity firm who own the club.
Ibrahimović and Rashford played together during the 2016/17 season at United. Throughout that campaign, Rashford made 53 appearances across all competitions, often sharing the field with Ibrahimović.
The former Sweden international has spoken highly of Rashford on many occasions.
In 2016, he said: “I see Rashford as a huge talent. I get to see him live every day now, and he is the future of England.”
