Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi is reportedly one of Manchester United’s favourite options to replace André Onana if he leaves the club this summer.
Manchester United are looking to bolster several positions within Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer after a dreadful season last term.
The initial focus has been on the forward line, with Matheus Cunha signed and Bryan Mbeumo being chased as another potential addition.
Afterwards, it has been claimed that they will turn their focus to midfield while some reports have suggested that a goalkeeper will be signed too.
André Onana has lost faith amongst the fanbase due to some high-profile errors since his 2023 arrival and he is beginning to attract some interest this summer.
Marco Carnesecchi price tag revealed
It was revealed by Gianluca Di Marzio this week that AS Monaco have enquired about the possibility of signing Onana this summer.
That report also claimed that Atalanta shot-stopper Marco Carnesecchi is United’s favourite option to replace the Cameroonian if he departs.
Now, information coming from Italian outlet TuttoMercato states that Atalanta are looking for at least £42 million for Carnesecchi this summer.
United are willing to offer £34 million for the player at this moment and it remains to be seen whether they will meet that valuation from the Serie A outfit.
It is also being reported that United are considering a move for Aston Villa’s Emi Martínez, who would cost between £30-40 million.
Goalkeeper shouldn’t cost £40m for United
United should ideally be replacing Onana this summer but they need to be careful with their money as there seems no need to spend £40 million on that position right now.
Onana should be an example why you shouldn’t be spending that much on a ‘keeper that isn’t guaranteed to be world-class for the club.

Martínez is closer to that but approaching 33 years of age and on the decline. It feels like that cash could be better spent in midfield, for example.
Even with these rumours, United still need to be able to sell Onana in the coming weeks and that feels like a difficult task, just like all of the other planned sales are becoming.
