Manchester United are considering both Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Michael Carrick for the caretaker head coach role at Old Trafford.
After deciding to sack Ruben Amorim earlier this week, Manchester United have been looking for short-term solutions to their head coach problem.
Darren Fletcher is currently in charge on an interim basis and reports suggest he is also being considered as caretaker for the rest of the season.
But the favourites for that position are Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Michael Carrick as both have had previous experience managing first-team squads.
It is expected that a decision is confirmed next week after the FA Cup clash against Brighton and the new boss’ first game will come against Manchester City next weekend.
United’s unpopular verdict on Solskjær and Carrick emerges
While many fans are excited about the prospect of Solskjær returning to the club, there are concerns over his staffing situation.
During his previous stint, Solskjær had Carrick and Kieran McKenna as assistants and they were very important behind-the-scenes.
A lot of supporters believe that the best outcome would be Solskjær and Carrick working together at Old Trafford for the rest of the season but that now appears unlikely.
According to ManchesterWorld, United are ‘unlikely’ to ask the two coaches to work together at Old Trafford.
This may be an unpopular decision amongst fans as there are certainly more question marks over each of them as individuals rather than as a package deal.
United conducting meetings
Solskjær is reportedly set to have in-person meetings with those at Old Trafford on Saturday while Carrick has already conducted those meetings.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is also in the running for the job but it seems like he is an outsider at this point. There is a possibility that United stick with Fletcher, however.

Despite drawing against Burnley earlier in the week, United played some great football and defended much better than they have done recently.
A coaching staff including Carrick, Fletcher and Solskjær would probably be the best but that scenario is very unlikely and it remains to be seen who will be involved in the backroom staff after the final decision is made.
