Manchester United’s hunt for a striker is starting to heat up as Rúben Amorim looks to add further goals to his starting XI.
Manchester United have shifted their focus to signing a new centre-forward as Rúben Amorim continues his search for additional firepower.
Bruno Fernandes was the club’s top scorer last season with 19 goals, while only three other players hit double figures across all competitions.
To help resolve their attacking struggles, United have spent £127.5 million to bring in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who scored 15 and 20 Premier League goals respectively last season.
With both wide attackers now in place, Amorim’s attention has turned to finding a striker capable of leading the line.
United launch official move for Watkins
Earlier this week, reports broke that United had held fresh talks with Aston Villa surrounding the potential signing of Ollie Watkins.
Although United were keen to stress that the £60 million quoted fee was too much and Villa have no plans to let the 29-year-old go, should his price drop before the end of the window, United would be willing to make a move.
According to TheSecretScout_ on X, who has previously shown fantastic reliability when it comes to the world of football transfers, United have now ‘officially’ made their first move for the England international.
It is stated that the club are keen on bringing in an experienced striker this summer, and see Watkins as a player who could provide Rasmus Højlund with the chance to understudy.
Mateta also back on United’s radar
Earlier this summer, reports suggested that United were weighing up an approach to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace to add further goals to their game.
However, despite the Frenchman reportedly being open to the move himself, the noise surrounding his transfer died down. Nevertheless, reported stalling surrounding a contract extension at Selhurst Park has breathed new life into the conversation.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the 27-year-old is now emerging as a possible option for Amorim alongside Watkins as the club’s possible striker target list is whittled down.
Despite links to Benjamin Šeško emerging recently, it has been revealed that Newcastle is eyeing a possible move for the RB Leipzig man if they lose Alexander Isak.
