Manchester United’s 2026 transfer ‘determination’ outlined as three midfield targets made clear

Manchester United are expected to sign at least one new midfielder next year although it has been unclear whether they will make any moves in January.

Manchester United look to have finally clicked into gear this season, after notching three consecutive Premier League victories.

Following a sluggish start that placed early pressure on Ruben Amorim, the Reds have begun to show real signs of progress with wins over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton.

The victory at Anfield earlier this month was a major highlight, but backing it up with another strong display and result against Brighton may have been even more telling for Amorim’s side.

In recent seasons, United have often performed well in the marquee fixtures but struggled to maintain that same drive against teams lower down the table. This time, though, they kept their standards high.

Next up, United travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest, now managed by newly appointed Sean Dyche. With confidence growing, the in-form Reds will be looking to extend their winning streak and collect another crucial three points.

United’s transfer ‘determination’ outlined

United are starting to make progress even with some obvious holes in the squad. Even though Casemiro is performing well currently, it is clear that the Reds need a top quality defensive midfielder.

Some fans want this move to occur in the January window, but reports from Sky Sports claim that United executives are determined to stick to their transfer plan and not be majorly influenced by the noise.

That means it is unlikely that the Reds will spend big in the mid-season window, although there are clear plans to bolster the engine room next summer.

According to the same report, United are considering Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba as options to improve their midfield.

United tried to sign Baleba in the latest summer window but were unable to negotiate with Brighton. He has not had the best start to the season since then, while Wharton and Anderson have been shining for their respective clubs.

Casemiro form helping United

Although many believed it was a mistake to not sign a midfielder ahead of this season, the fact that Casemiro only needs to play once a week is helping the Reds.

The Brazilian is in solid form playing alongside Bruno Fernandes. While he has been on the pitch, United have only conceded three goals so far this season.

His contract expires in the summer, and if he departs, there will need to be at least two midfield signings in the summer. Some reports suggest United are considering offering him a new contract.

In the meantime, however, it seems like United should be able to keep improving and getting results without that major midfield signing, which will finally come next year.
