Manchester United may be in line to raise well over £200 million in sales this summer as Rúben Amorim engages in a complete squad reset at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s summer has begun at full throttle, with Rúben Amorim wasting no time in shaping the squad he wants for the upcoming campaign.
Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, and Victor Lindelöf will all depart when their contracts expire next month, while Amorim has reportedly told Alejandro Garnacho he is free to find a new club ahead of the new season.
Amorim is targeting upgrades in multiple positions, with attacking reinforcements and a dynamic midfielder topping the list of priorities as he looks to implement his philosophy.
The recruitment team are focusing on players who are better suited to the physical demands of the Premier League, addressing a recurring weakness in Amorim’s previous sides when faced with pace and power.
United believe a more athletic, resilient squad is key to closing the gap on the league’s elite. With Amorim wanting an overhaul, the Manchester Evening News have reported that the club are prepared to sell any player this summer, effectively listing all on the transfer market for the right price.
United’s 11 most valuable players this summer
Although it has been well documented that many of those at United are simply not good enough to play for a top Premier League team, there are still many players within the squad who hold a decent value and could raise plenty of cash this summer.
As per data backed up by Transfermarkt, United’s most valuable player is a three-way split between Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Leny Yoro, who are all said to hold a market value of £46 million – although it’s expected that it would cost at least £70 million for any of these three players to be sold.
Following the above trio is 23-year-old midfielder Manuel Ugarte with a market value just shy of £42 million, which will in part be due to his age and four-year contract at United. Ugarte is followed by centre-back Lisandro Martínez, striker Rasmus Højlund, and winger Garnacho, who are all valued at £38 million.
However, Martínez is unlikely to be sold as he’s injured until November, while United are demanding upward of £60 million for Garnacho in the coming months.
Defender Matthijs de Ligt and star forward Amad then follow with a value of just over £33 million, although for any club to secure Amad this summer, they would no doubt have to lodge a bid near £100 million.
Finally, Amorim lieutenant Diogo Dalot and 2024 striker signing Joshua Zirkzee round out United’s 11 most valuable players, with both players said to hold a market value of just under £30 million apiece.
United’s total squad value lowest of ‘Big Six’ clubs
According to Transfermarkt data, United’s total squad value of £586.84 million is the lowest of the Premier League’s so-called ‘Big Six’, sitting well below Tottenham Hotspur’s value of £701.69 million in fifth.
Manchester City top the list with a value of £1.1 billion, while Arsenal miss out on a ten-figure value with a £950 million total squad market value, sitting in second.
Newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool come in third with a £833.78 million total squad value, sitting a little higher than Chelsea’s £773.78 million value in fourth.
United are expected to shift a lot of their ageing players this summer and replace them with younger and brighter talents. This plus the addition of ready-made stars such as Matheus Cunha and improved form next season will significantly add to the club’s total squad value this summer.
