Manchester United ‘willing to pay’ £48m release clause for star Cristiano Ronaldo is pushing to Old Trafford

One of Amorim’s main targets for his summer overhaul at Old Trafford could save Barcelona’s ability to spend in the summer transfer window.

There is no denying that Ruben Amorim’s squad is in desperate need of reinforcements ahead of his first full season in charge of Manchester United.

With a summer clear out looking likely at Old Trafford, a number of key players in all positions will be required to take the next step forward going into next season.

Francisco Trincão has emerged as a name close to the top of Amorim’s summer signing list, with the Portuguese coach managing the winger during his time at Sporting.

Barcelona will also be beneficiaries if a potential transfer of the 25-year-old winger to Old Trafford happens.

United willing to pay Trincão release clause

Barcelona signed Trincão in 2020, ultimately selling him to Sporting in 2023 after a couple of loan spells to Wolves and Sporting themselves.

A 50% sell-on clause was included in the deal to Sporting. It’s reported by Fichajes that Manchester United are willing to pay the £48 million release clause, meaning Barcelona is set to receive £24 million to conduct some business this summer.

Barcelona’s financial issues in recent years have been stark, selling off a number of assets to stay afloat, meaning their transfer spending has taken a hit in recent years, relying heavily on products from their world-renowned academy, La Masia.

Trincão could be a success under Amorim

A key aspect of Trincão’s potential move to United is his previous relationship with Amorim at Sporting. The Manchester United manager knows the winger well and will know how to get the best out of the 25-year-old.

While Trincão has previous experience in the Premier League with a fairly uninspiring loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2021, Amorim already knows the player and will know how to get the absolute best out of him as he did at Sporting.

With Rashford, Antony and Sancho all either leaving or expected to leave in the summer, bringing in new wide players is critical in an attempt to return to competing in the top six positions in the coming years, and Trincão looks increasingly likely to be one of the new additions.

If Trincão needed any more motivation to join United this summer, it’s been reported that he’s been encouraged to join the club by United’s Portuguese internationals like Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and Old Trafford legend, Cristiano Ronaldo.
