Manchester United ‘will sell’ one goalkeeper as Senne Lammens signing nears completion

Manchester United will reportedly sell one of their two goalkeepers in the next few days of the transfer window, as Senne Lammens signing nears closer.

Manchester United’s 2024/25 campaign raised a lot of concerns, but one of these key dilemmas was what approach to take on the goalkeeper front.

Neither Andre Onana nor Altay Bayindir were overly convincing for Ruben Amorim last season, causing the Red Devils to look elsewhere for a potential new shot-stopper.

Amorim has started Bayindir for both Premier League games so far this season, conceding two in just as many games. This has raised questions regarding Onana’s future.

With only a matter of days left in the summer transfer window, United are expected to go ahead with the signing of Royal Antwerp number one Senne Lammens, which could cause quite the ripple effect.

United to sell a goalkeeper

As reported by Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, Amorim’s side could look to move one of their two current goalkeeping options before the end of the window.

The report reads, ‘Manchester United will sell one of their current goalkeepers in the next few days’, which would leave Amorim with four senior shot-stoppers.

It is likely that Tom Heaton will stay at Old Trafford for next season as a third-choice option, meaning that it can only be one of Onana or Bayindir to depart.

This report also states that their sources claim Lammens is coming to the club as a long-term project, to provide competition and back up for the number one keeper.

United’s offloading dilemma

One prevalent dilemma that the Reds have faced in this summer transfer window is offloading their want-away stars.

Having entirely replaced their attack, United have tried to offload some of their attackers, which has been quite unsuccessful so far.

If Amorim’s side are now also to try and offload a goalkeeper in the last few days of the window, this could prove difficult.

This final week will definitely be an important one to keep an eye on for the Red Devils, who will likely have a lot of business to conduct on both the incoming and outgoing fronts.
