Manchester United want to hand Alejandro Garnacho an eight-year contract as the player enters the final 18 months of his current deal.

Eight years would be the longest contract ever handed to a Manchester United player, with Alejandro Garnacho’s family and advisors hesitant to sign on to anything longer than four years.

This is according to the Mirror, who claim that Garnacho is set to be handed a huge pay rise in order to keep him at the club.

Garnacho has shown incredible development this season, scoring and assisting some pivotal goals under Erik ten Hag so far, most recently winding his way past the Manchester City defence to set up Marcus Rashford’s winner during last weekend’s Manchester derby.

It is claimed that United are close to agreeing a wage of around £32,000 a week for the tricky winger, although there is also one other rumoured part of the contract which sticks out: a boy-out clause.

It has never been club policy for contracts to contain buy-out clauses, however they are incredibly popular in Europe, and are a requirement in Spain.

United could no doubt set the buy-out clause at a crazy transfer fee, with some contracts such as Karim Benzema’s set at a billion euros.

Ten Hag heaped tons of praise on Garnacho in recent weeks, saying: “He has a skill that I don’t see many players in the Premier League having — he beats players one on one.

“He’s learnt in the last months about how to play in a team, how to live, how to do the right things in the week, how to have the right attitude on the training ground and you see how he’s acting as a team player and with his individual skills that can make the difference.

“Also for him it’s to keep going in the process. It’s not done. There is a lot to come. There is a lot of room for improvement with him but he can help, he can contribute on the highest level already and I’m really happy.”
