Manchester United want to complete loan move and three other transfers after Matheus Cunha deal

Manchester United have announced that they have reached an agreement to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves this summer and are already moving onto their other targets.

On Sunday afternoon, it was confirmed that Matheus Cunha has joined Manchester United on a five-year contract after the club activated his £62.5 million release clause.

Ruben Amorim’s side struggled heavily in the attacking third last season and the hope is that Cunha will be adding some much-needed quality to that struggling forward line.

However, no one is under the impression that Cunha will solve all of United’s issues and there is a desire for more transfers to happen before pre-season begins for the Reds.

Several players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford and the priority positions have been outlined in a fresh report.

United transfer priorities after Cunha deal

According to Sky Sports, the Reds are now looking to sign another no.10 for the right side and a striker. The options they listed for these positions included Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, Antoine Semenyo, Bryan Mbeumo and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

These are known to be the priority positions at United, while the report also adds that they are considering signing a central midfielder on loan for Amorim. No names were mentioned for this.

Ederson of Atalanta has been heavily linked with a United move but it seems unlikely that the Italian club would allow him to leave on loan this summer.

Finally, the report stated that United are also eyeing another centre-back signing. The Reds’ depth in the backline is quite good but they would perhaps be interested in a younger defender who can fill the squad role of the departing Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelöf.

It was also clarified that United could make other signings dependent on certain player sales. For example, if André Onana or Casemiro departed, they would then look to sign a goalkeeper or no.6 for Amorim’s squad.

United eyeing centre-midfielder on loan

Many reports have mentioned that Amorim would like to sign an energetic midfielder for his system but this is the first which suggests it would be a loan move.

That could be down to more money being spent in the forward areas – which United view as a major priority, and many would agree with that.

Although there is clearly an issue in the centre of midfield and signing a top player in that position could drastically improve United as a team.

Ederson appears to offer the physical qualities desired for the role but there are question marks if he could dominate with the ball in the Premier League.

After the club get all of their forward signings over the line, it is expected that the search for a midfielder ramps up ahead of pre-season.
