Manchester United have been urged by a Premier League winner to replace Casemiro with a ‘brilliant’ midfielder, who would ‘complement’ Kobbie Mainoo.
Manchester United have started the new year in tremendous fashion, having won all three of their Premier League bouts under Michael Carrick.
The Reds looked set for a draw against Marco Silva’s Fulham side, but thanks to a late Benjamin Šeško winner, United were able to see off the West London outfit.
One of the most valiant performances from United’s victory came from their veteran midfielder, Casemiro, who contributed both a goal and an assist.
The Brazilian midfielder has announced that he will be departing Old Trafford at the end of the season, and Premier League winner Danny Simpson has recommended a replacement to his old side.
United urged to sign Tonali
As reported by Manchester World, former United and Leicester City defender Danny Simpson has tipped the Red Devils to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle in the summer.
In an interview with Metro, Simpson said, “I think Tonali would work really well in that United midfield.
“I think he would complement Kobbie Mainoo really nicely, because he gets about the pitch so well. Obviously, he’s been a top player for Newcastle. He’s good on the ball, he’s strong, he’s physical, he’d be a brilliant player in there in many regards.
“Also, he’s the type of player that I think could wear a Man Utd shirt. It’s not easy, that, and I feel like he could wear it with the pressure and deal with it. He could definitely slot in there.”
United’s midfield options
On deadline day of the January transfer window, Tonali was reportedly offered to Arsenal by his agent, which would suggest that the midfielder could be swayed, despite the Magpies’ determination to keep him.
Even if Tonali isn’t on United’s radar, it seems from recent reports as if Carrick’s side are keen on signing a midfielder with Premier League experience.
The main three candidates so far for the Reds have been Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, and Adam Wharton, who all have a similar amount of top-flight experience.
Regardless of who United decide to make a move for, their Casemiro replacement is likely to cost them a pretty penny, and could have a major impact on their squad.
