Manchester United have grown increasingly interested in a new goalkeeper ahead of the new season, with ‘concrete’ interest being reported for £17 million man.
The upcoming Premier League campaign presents Manchester United with the opportunity to change their recent misfortunes, as they aim to climb up the table.
Ruben Amorim’s side missed out on all forms of silverware last season, and finished in a dismal 15th in the league, whilst also losing the Europa League final.
The Red Devils have finally secured their two top targets in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, but are still seeking a new striker, goalkeeper, and midfielder.
On the goalkeeper front, rumours have started to intensify with ‘concrete’ interest being reported for Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens.
Lammens interest ‘becoming more concrete’
According to Gazet Van Antwerpen, via SportWitness, United are joined by Sunderland and Leeds in the pursuit of the 23-year-old Lammens.
Het Laatste Nieuws have also reported, via the same source, on this rumour, claiming that United’s interest is well known. They claim that Lammens is on the Red Devils shortlist, and their interest is ‘becoming more concrete’.
Galatasaray are also interested in the shot stopper, but he would prefer a move to a top European League such as the Premier League.
Antwerp’s sporting director Marc Overmars has publicly stated that his goalkeeper needs to be sold this summer, having already brought in his successor.
Is Lammens a good option?
With the Belgian side only hoping for between £13 million and £17 million, this presents United with a stellar market opportunity to find a new ‘number one’.
Given the situation that United find themselves in, a goalkeeper on the cheaper side may be what they need in order to improve the depth in their squad.
Amorim’s side are in a position where they need to sell to buy, but they are struggling to find suitors for their want-away stars, making purchasing far more difficult.
Additionally, as it appears likely that Andre Onana will remain in Manchester, acquiring a young goalkeeper to compete for his spot may be a smart solution.
