Manchester United transfer target available for cut-price deal as £30m gentleman’s agreement made

One key Manchester United transfer target could be available for just £50 million, over £30 million cheaper than his release clause

Rasmus Hojlund joined Manchester United in August 2023 for a reported fee of £64 million, but the Denmark international has struggled to consistently find the back of the net.

Despite impressing in the Europa League, Hojlund has scored just three goals in the Premier League this season, in 24 appearances.

United’s other striking option, Joshua Zirkzee, has found himself playing behind the centre-forward in recent weeks. This leaves just Hojlund as the only senior striker available to Ruben Amorim.

Like other positions, more options are needed at striker for the Portuguese manager. The Red Devils need to recruit a true goalscorer and one of Amorim’s former stars could be on the market.

Gyokeres becomes real option for United

As reported by The Mirror, Viktor Gyokeres has made a verbal agreement that allows him to leave for over £30 million less than his release clause.

Gyokeres starred under Amorim at Sporting CP, scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists in 50 games in 2023/24.

The former Coventry City player looks set to leave Sporting in the summer transfer window, with United and Arsenal gunning for his signature.

A transfer fee of £50 million should be enough to see Gyokeres move away from Portugal, significantly less than his reported release clause of £86.3 million.

The reduced fee could see Gyokeres become a real option for United, providing enough player sales are made to justify £50 million on just one player.

Gyokeres transfer makes sense for everyone

Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu was Amorim’s first transfer as Manchester United manager and he has been a breath of fresh air.

The Portuguese manager needs to be allowed to bring in more of his own players, Gyokeres could be the next one through the door.

While Hojlund could still become a great player, United need quality now and the Swedish international can bring exactly that.

The 26-year-old should be a priority in the summer transfer window if the funds are available if United wish to get back to the top.
