With what feels like an eternity since United fans have seen Tyrell Malacia’s name on the starting line-up, it appears that the Dutchman could potentially be on his way out after a stagnant spell in Manchester.
Since joining the Reds in 2022 from Dutch side Feyenoord after a late transfer hijack of Lyon, Tyrell Malcia has struggled to get a foot in the door at Man United.
After suffering a major injury in 2023, which kept the Dutchman away for 500 days, missing 70 games, Malacia has struggled to reignite his Man United career since his time on the sidelines came to an end.
Since returning from a brief loan spell at PSV last season, where the left back was able to return with an Eredivisie medal in his luggage, Malacia has still made little to no progress in reintergrating into the United squad, only playing in a two-minute cameo to see out United’s victory against Newcastle United in December.
However, it now appears that Malacia may have found a last-minute pathway out of the club this January, as he continues to search for a potential spark to reignite his career.
Could Malacia leave before the deadline?
A potential exit for Tyrell Malacia this January is still on the cards after being a survivor of United’s transfer ‘bomb squad’ this summer, with the left back unable to find any suitors before the end of last years window.
However, according to reports from The Manchester Evening News, United are still yet to make a final decision on whether Malacia will be allowed to leave before the conclusion of the transfer window at the end of the month.
Nevertheless, it has also been reported that there is still interest from potential suitors in Europe, with attention alleged to have come from Italy, Spain, and Turkey this month.
Despite recently beginning to make a few more consecutive appearances on United’s bench after a long period out of the matchday squad, this could soon come to an end with Noussair Mazraoui set to return from AFCON after making it to the final with Morocco, he will likely retain his spot in the squad from Malacia upon return, which could become a deciding factor in the Dutchman’s future and any potential exit.
How would United respond to a Malcia exit?
If a move were to materialize for Malacia before the end of the January transfer window, it would be intriguing to see how United would respond to the potential departure of the Dutchman.
It is yet to be confirmed as to whether the club would look to bring in any form of replacement in the case of Malcia leaving before the deadline.
However, with INEOS likely continue with their transfer strategy of avoiding any short-term fixes and rather only looking to bring in players if they are for the long term and suit the vision for the future of the club, it is unlikely that United would look at any replacement for Malacia this January having not already planned for it in advance.
