Manchester United have been told that two managerial candidates are ‘risk free’ should the club decide to part ways with Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United have picked up only two wins from their opening seven games this season, with victories coming against Chelsea and Burnley.
Ruben Amorim’s side relied on an early red card and a stoppage-time penalty to edge through those matches.
Following last season’s disastrous campaign, United were desperate for a positive start but have once again faltered.
Their latest setback, a 3-1 defeat to Brentford, has increased the scrutiny on Amorim, with growing doubts over his tactics and ability to turn things around.
Although reports have clarified that the United board are backing the Portuguese boss, results will need to improve or he will be at risk of being sacked.
United told two managerial candidates are ‘risk free’
United fans have been burned too many times with managerial appointments and if Amorim is sacked, the next one must be a safe bet.
Similarly to the purchases of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the Reds need proven quality in the Old Trafford hot seat as well and Ben Foster believes there are two perfect candidates.
The ex-goalkeeper has claimed that Unai Emery and Oliver Glasner are both ‘risk free’ appointments for United. Reports claim Glasner is on the list of potential Amorim replacements.
Speaking on ‘Fozcast – The Ben Foster Podcast,’ he said: “I just look at their next appointment, whenever it may be, and would we sit here and go, ‘Is Glasner a risk?’
“No, he’s done it at Palace, he’s won the Europa League, was it at Frankfurt? Yeah.
“He’s [Glasner] managed big teams in Europe, okay? We’re not talking the biggest of big teams, but he has done it, and it’s the same with Emery,” he added.
“Let’s say Emery, for example, whether or not he’d go, but he’s been there, he’s done it. They’re not risks, are they?”
United manager needs to bring stability
Unfortunately, even though these managers have done well in the Premier League, there is no guaranteed success under Glasner or Emery at United.
It is a simply a different beast when you’re in charge at Old Trafford and there is no comparison when speaking about Crystal Palace or Aston Villa.
Although it does seem sensible for United to bring someone in who knows the Premier League if Amorim is sacked. There needs to be a level of stability at the club.
The next manager cannot be the man expected to turn the fortunes around and bring the club back to the biggest honours, but instead simply bring that much-needed stability.
